Pakistan: Punjab Chief Minister’s historic decision to restore safe Basant for Laborie’s

Lahore: After the historic decision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, it has been announced to restore safe Basant in Lahore. Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza has issued an official notification of Basant 2026. According to this, Basant will be celebrated on 6, 7 and 8 February 2026 within the limits of Lahore district.
The government has given conditional permission for kite flying under strict conditions and safety measures. An e-Biz app and online portal have been activated for the registration of kite and string manufacturers, while kite flying equipment. The sale period has been fixed from February 1 to 8, 2026. There will be a complete ban on the manufacture and sale of spinning wheels and the strings will be in the form of “Pana” only. A zero-tolerance policy will be adopted on the use of nylon, plastic and metal strings. All manufacturers and sellers have been directed to complete their digital registration. It has been made mandatory for motorcyclists to install safety wires and the size of kites and kites will not exceed the prescribed limit, action will be taken against violations. Police and district officers will take strict action against those selling prohibited strings. Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza said that Basant is a cultural festival of Lahore, it is our responsibility to make it safe. Bloody strings and chemical coating will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Businessmen can start business legally from December 30. The protection of human lives is the top priority and will not be compromised. Parents should prevent their children from using prohibited strings and law-abiding citizens will be provided with full protection.
