The Agriculture Department has directed farmers to immediately destroy weeds to protect the garlic crop from various diseases including leaf blight. The spokesperson said that farmers should take preventive measures to protect the garlic crop from various diseases and insect attacks, especially regarding blight disease.

He said that due to the attack of leaf blight disease on the garlic crop, the leaves start drying from above, while as the attack intensifies, all the leaves dry up and curl up, thus the size of the garlic bulbs remains small and the crop has to face severe damage. He said that although the symptoms of this disease are similar to the damage of frost, the germs of this disease are more harmful. He said that farmers must weed the crop three to four times and there should be no negligence in timely destruction of weeds.
